LBF

General Description

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) (www.fraunhofer.de), the largest organisation for applied research in Europe, undertakes applied research of direct utility to private and public enterprise and of wide benefit to society. FhG maintains roughly 80 research units, including 58 Fraunhofer Institutes, at over 40 different locations throughout Germany.

The Fraunhofer LBF (www.lbf.fraunhofer.de) as participating institute looks back on almost 75 years of experience in the field of structural durability and has expanded this core competence a decade towards adaptronics and system reliability. Since July 2012 the former German Plastic Institute (DKI) became a division of the LBF. The LBF team counts 450 employees which work closely together with the associated Chair of System Reliability and Machine Acoustics SzM of the TU Darmstadt. Furthermore, the Fraunhofer LBF is coordinating the national funded LOEWE-Center AdRIA (center of excellence) in which the Fraunhofer LBF is cooperating with the TU Darmstadt and the University of Applied Darmstadt on topics such as NVH, acoustics, active noise and vibration control, distributed sensor networks and energy harvesting as well as on embedded systems (incl. wireless communication).
