General Description |
The University of Ferrara (www.unife.it) counts 12,000 students with nearly 400 degrees granted each year. The teaching staff number 600, including 223 researchers. It is organised into 8 Faculties. The Engineering Department in Ferrara (EnDIF)was founded in 1991. At present counts 69 academic staff including professors and researchers, and10 technicians. The research group in acoustics and vibrations at the EnDIF counts 4 Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 5 PostDoc researchers and 3 PhD Students. The group is involved inmodelling, analysis and optimisation of the vibro-acoustic behavior of mechanical components; developing of techniques for the experimental validation and updating of models; monitoring and diagnostics of mechanical systems by means of advanced signal processing techniques applied to vibro-acoustical signals. The group is particularly active in applied research in close collaboration with companies, and thanks to PRRIITT Programme and to further regional resources (in particular financed by Objective 2 funds) the laboratory MechLAV(Advanced Mechanics Lab - Ferrara Technopole) was set up in 2010. |
Supervisors and Expertise |
Prof. G. Dalpiaz, coordinator, scientist-in-charge, vibro-acoustic experimental and modelling, supervisor of 6 defended PhD theses and coordinator of MechLAV; Dr. Emiliano Mucchi, dynamic modelling; Dr. Simone Delvecchio, experimentalanalysis; Dr. Francesco Pompoli, acoustic analysis |
Key Facilities and Infrastructure |
The research group is equipped with up-to-date NVH measurement andanalysis instrumentation including: multi-channel data acquisition systems; workstations and PC’s with licenses for all major CAE software for NVHanalysis;test bench for monitoring and faults diagnostics in gears and bearings; large anechoic chamber (10mX10mX10m). |
Previous Involvement in Research and Training Programmes |
Involvement in many regional, national and international researchprogrammes and thematic networks, including the recent European projects EDSVS I & II, CAHRISMA; ERATO;EDSVS I & II; CANTOR. |
Current Involvement in Research and Training Programmes |
Running FP7 research and training projects: COST Action TUD -1105 NVH analysis techniques for design and optimisation of hybrid and electric vehicles (coordinating) and involved in regional research programmes; MARE-WINT; involved in national and regional research programmes. |
